The Wedding of John and Kanani

The Wedding of John and Kanani

“Aloha consists of this new attitude of heart, above negativism, above legalism. It is the unconditional desire to promote the true good of other people in a friendly spirit, out of a sense of kinship. Aloha seeks to do good, with no conditions attached.”
— Reverend Dr. Abraham Akaka

In the spirit of Aloha, John and Kanani were married at District 5 Schoolhouse on July 22, 2022. Kanani is Hawaiian and spent many years living on the Big Island of Hawaii with her ohana. When it came time for Kanani to select her wedding flowers, it was the perfect way for her to pay tribute to her heritage and her love of Hawaii.

Kanani wanted a vivid and vibrant color palette including some of the Hawaiian tropical blooms she grew up around. To capture that vibe, we used red anthurium, birds-of-paradise, plum dendrobium, lime cymbidium orchids, and gloriosa lilies. We mixed in tropical greenery and accent flowers such as protea, ranunculus, and roses. The end result was a beautiful combination.

It was a pleasure to design with all this amazing color and variety of blooms. We carried that same color palette through to the ceremony focal structure at District 5 Schoolhouse. Using a frame of birds-of-paradise and tropical greenery.

For the reception at District 5 Schoolhouse, we designed long, narrow floral runners for the banquet-style tables and accented the runners with budvases with one or two blooms.

This wasn’t the first time WSF designed for Kanani’s ohana. When Kanani’s sister, Nalani, was married in Hawaii in 2006, Sally traveled to the Big Island of Hawaii. It was an amazing experience to design with freshly picked Hawaiian blooms.
